How much time will I miss from work after having the procedure?

You should plan to go home and rest for the remainder of the day after having your procedure however, after a good night's sleep, you will be ready to drive a car, and return to work if you so choose.

How do I choose the right surgeon?

Of course, choosing a surgeon is a personal decision and should be based on a high level of comfort with the Doctor and his staff. Some areas that you should investigate in order to increase or confirm your comfort with the Doctor are: experience, personal attention, and satisfied patients.

Dr. Beyer has performed more LASIK procedures than anyone else in the city of Boulder but, his center is not operated like one of those LASIK factories you hear the radio ads about. At Beyer Laser Center every patient receives very individualized and personal care. Taking advantage of the Doctor's Free LASIK Evaluation is the fastest and most thorough way of getting a good sense of whether this is the right doctor for you.

What's really the best technology?

Today, the best technology utilizes a Wavescan to map your personal vision system. This highly detailed map shows aberrations that are not detectable with traditional eye examination equipment. The wavescan map is then used to program your personally-designed LASIK procedure into the laser equipment that is used to perform the surgery.

What's the difference between "bladeless" and regular LASIK?

Bladeless refers to a relatively young technology utilizing a corneal flap-creating laser. The only difference between "bladeless," or "Intralase," and regular LASIK is in the manner in which the corneal flap is created; the remainder of the procedure is identical. While Intralase shows promise, it simply does not have the volume of efficacy-proving clinical results that it's older brother, the microkeratome has.

Beyer Laser Center strives to stay on the cutting edge of LASIK technology with a focus on proven results which is why, for the time being, Intralase will not be offered until longer-term studies can be completed.

How many refractive procedures have you performed total?

Dr. Beyer has performed over 5000 refractive procedures in Boulder alone during the past seven years.

How many refractive surgery candidates have you turned down?

Less than 1% of patients who actually come in for a LASIK consultation turn out not to be good candidates for the procedure.

What should I expect my vision to be like for the first few weeks after surgery?

For the first two weeks after surgery, it is normal for vision to fluctuate. Although the positive effects of the surgery are evident almost immediately, you should see further improvement as the eye heals.
